Here are a couple of pictures I took with Instagram while I was home the other weekend. My family went to Water Fire in Providence, which was really fun. You walk around the city while it is lit up by bonfires along the river, and it’s kind of like a little fair :). The human statues were probably my favorite part; their costumes were so beautiful!
So awhile back I posted about Klout and how to get free samples or “perks” using your influence online. The first perk I signed up for was for a sample of the Essie Fall collection, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I could have gotten anything from six full size bottles (as pictured on the website) to six packets of color to haphazardly squeeze onto one nail to test the color. Well today the results are in and … drum roll please … you get one free full size bottle! Apparently the color is assigned randomly because you aren’t given an option to choose, but I’m not complaining. I got a bottle of stylenomics, a deep emerald green and I can’t wait to try it!
Have a great day!
And now for the legal disclosure:
“I was given a free product or sample because I’m a Klout influencer. I am under no obligation to receive the sample or talk about this company. I get no additional benefits for talking about the product or company.”
After two long weeks of exams and a weekend home to recover, I felt like getting a little dressed up this morning. My latest primary blog for inspiration has been Chiara Ferragni’s The Blonde Salad, and I’m obsessed with her seemingly unlimited supply of arm candy. So, today I decided to dress up my new sweater (photo coming soon) with my own interpretation. The lobster bangle was purchased on a Hautelook jewelry blowout, and the pearl necklace that I wrapped around my wrist was a gift from last Christmas that my mom found on Rue La La (yay Mom!).
Have a great Monday!
Some of you may have heard of Klout, the website that tracks your various social media accounts and gives you a score from 0-100 on how influential you are within your network. I joined a little while ago because, let’s face it, I was curious. To be honest, it didn’t seem like anything special at first.
Then I realized there was a “perks” section. Hmmm. It turns out various companies collaborate with Klout to give away samples of products to users in their targeted demographic. You can claim whatever perks you qualify for and are not obligated to promote the company, etc., although that is obviously ideal for them, since they give away most items to people who hold a certain amount of “influence” over others.
Well it turns out I qualified for a sample of the Essie Fall collection of nail polishes, seen below, and all I had to do was have a score of at least 40 and have “beauty” listed as one of my categories of interest/influence. Check and double check. It says the samples will be here in 2-3 weeks, so let’s see what happens! Who doesn’t love free stuff, right?
Have a great weekend!
So many of you know that we are currently in the middle of New York Fashion Week. And while that usually sparks a week long frenzy of going online to watch the shows, stare at various Instagram accounts, and drool at street style blogs, I never actually considered that I could be at one of the shows … That is until last Friday morning.
I was wondering around my apartment, still half asleep, when my roommate (whose summer internship had taken her into the city for the By Misha runway show) suddenly texted me:
“I just found out I’m allowed to invite friends. Drop everything. Come to NYC.”
It turned out that even if I wanted to I couldn’t make it into New York quickly enough to catch the show, which was beyond disappointing. But in the hour I spent running around trying to pull a Tim Gunn and make-it-work, I was, of course, mostly panicking about my outfit.
What, I repeat, WHAT was I going to wear to my very first runway show at New York Fashion Week?! Something black would be the obvious go-to. Should I wear the strapless romper or the mini T shirt dress? What shoes? I can barely keep it together in heels … let alone on the streets of New York; would flats be acceptable? And the accessories … Oy vey. Thank god I had just done my laundry or I would have been extra screwed.
Anyway, my point is that you should always have something stylish and easy that can be put together on a moments notice. The ideal would be a glass case with a small collection from Bergdorf’s that you can break open with an axe on a moments notice. But, since that’s not probable for those of us on a budget, you can just take some inspiration from the street style pictures below (shot by Phil Oh for Vogue) and start constructing outfits. We might not all have a closet full of Balenciaga and Givenchy, but we can certainly throw a collar necklace over a slouchy sweater or pair a basic tank with an A-line skirt and some ankle boots!
Have a great day!
First of all I’d like to apologize for going MIA without an explanation. My family is in Maine again this week and there is little cell service and absolutely zero internet unless you drive 20 minutes into town and buy a muffin at the book store café as an excuse to sit there on your laptop for an hour and a half (a practice which I’ve found is not very appreciated). So to make up for it, here are a few instagram photos of the view off our dock, our new puppy, Tag, and the recently completed Louboutin Cinderella shoes.
I hope you all had a great 4th of July and I’ll see you next week!
